Hi There!

I’m Doris Pakozdi, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California and the founder of Growing Through Emotions Counseling. Life can be tough, and whether you’re navigating a difficult life transition, facing relationship challenges, or simply seeking to live a more fulfilling life, I’m here to support you! I truly believe each person’s story is unique, and I’m committed to offering support, understanding, and compassion as you navigate your journey of growth and change. Deciding to start therapy takes courage, and I’d be honored to walk alongside you.

My Therapy Approach

The relationship between a client and their therapist is one of the most important parts of the therapy process! I strive to create a space that is warm, comfortable, and collaborative. I believe therapy is most effective when it feels like a genuine conversation rather than a clinical process, so I make it a priority to be approachable and easy to talk to. I also believe that oftentimes, “two things can be true”, and that includes therapy - it can be both challenging and fun! Laughter is a powerful tool that helps lighten the mood while fostering connection and trust. Every now and then, I might use humor to bring some lightness and laughter to our sessions, making the process feel a bit easier while still doing the important work.

I view therapy as a collaborative process where we’ll work together to explore your challenges, strengths, and goals. You’re the expert on your own life, and I’m here to help you gain insight, develop new tools, and work toward the changes you want to make.

My goal is to help you feel empowered to make decisions, build self-awareness, and take actionable steps in a way that works for you. I’m here to meet you where you are, and together we’ll navigate the challenges you’re facing, at your own pace.

Background:

I was born and raised in Southern California and spend most of my time in Los Angeles and San Diego Counties. I love to explore new restaurants and coffee shops, take long walks while listening to my Discover Weekly, and enjoy weekend trips with friends and family.

I am a first-generation US citizen and as the daughter of immigrant parents, I had the opportunity to navigate life between different cultures, which has profoundly shaped my perspective and approach to both life and therapy. I love learning about cultures outside of my own by traveling and trying traditional cuisines.

I have a deep appreciation for the challenges many individuals face when trying to integrate different aspects of their background into their sense of self. I strive to support those on their own individual journeys of self-discovery and healing.
